2020 Fortune Global 500 released: 23 automotive companies shortlisted

Recently, Fortune magazine released the 2020 China Top 500 Companies Ranking, which considers the performance and achievements of Chinese listed companies in the past year. Data shows that the total operating revenue of the 500 listed Chinese companies this year reached 50.5 trillion yuan (RMB), an increase of 11% compared to last year; The net profit reached 4.2 trillion yuan, an increase of 16% compared to last year. In 2019, China's GDP was 99.1 trillion yuan, which means that the total revenue of the 500 listed companies on the list exceeded half of last year's GDP.

Focusing on the automotive sector, a total of 23 automotive and parts companies have been shortlisted this year, an increase of 1 from 2019, including 18 automobile manufacturers and 5 parts suppliers. Among them, SAIC Group, BAIC Motor, and Weichai Power continue to rank in the top three; Seven companies, including BYD, Dongfeng, Geely, Great Wall, Changan, China National Heavy Duty Truck (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd., and Ningbo Junsheng Electronics Co., Ltd., entered the top ten.

Specifically, although SAIC Motor Corporation (SAIC) continues to maintain its top position on the automotive rankings, it has dropped by 2 places compared to last year, ranking 7th in the overall ranking. Its operating revenue has also decreased from 902.19 billion yuan last year to 843.32 billion yuan. Beijing Automotive and Weichai Power, ranked second and third in the automotive rankings, have seen an increase in revenue and relatively stable performance, but have swapped their rankings from the previous year.

In the 2020 Top 500 rankings, BYD ranked 80th, 10 places behind 2019; Great Wall Motors and Geely Motors have fallen out of the top 100, ranking 103rd and 104th respectively, while GAC Group's ranking has also dropped from 125th to 175th. However, BAIC Blue Valley New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., ranked 386th, has risen 108 places compared to the same period last year, becoming the fastest rising automotive company on this year's list. In addition, the performance of battery company CATL is also quite impressive, ranking 226th in the 2020 Fortune 500 and advancing 64th.

From the perspective of net profit, only Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd. among the automotive industry related enterprises that were shortlisted this time failed to achieve profitability, with a loss of 2.65 billion yuan, ranking 146th on the overall list, a decrease of 10 places compared to the same period last year.
